Fleece to Garment Day

 emoticon

Last weekend, I went a long to the Guild’s Fleece to Garment Day.

This year’s event took place on Gina’s gorgeous Hampshire farm, using Bo the Blue-Faced-Cross’s first fleece to make a blanket. Bo had sadly died through the winter, so it was going to be something of a memory blanket.

First, Carole laid out the fleece and showed us how to skirt and grade it. We then pulled the whole thing apart and took a chunk to spin with “in the grease”.

Spinning took much of the morning and, luckily, it was beautiful weather.

My square took an age to be knitted up so, for a break, I went to say hi to Bo’s family! They are so cute!

Unfortuntely I didn’t get a photo of my finished square, but you can see it on Liz’s blog here. It’s the one on the left with the stripes and holes.

The Day That Was

 emoticon

Saturday was Guild Day, held in a really little village in deepest darkest Oxfordshire. It was my first one, but everyone was really lovely and chatty and made me feel really welcome. Apart from meeting loads of cool people, the highlight of the day was Kate’s ace workshop on knitting with metal and beads — I wont post photos of mine though, because it’s not done yet!

Before I left, I nabbed these from the sale table: a spindle for Sarah, and carders which were a bargainous 5 (which will be intrumental in our task of turning that big fleece I bought into spinnable rolags)

I heaved all my gubbins back back to my, only car to discover I’d locked my keys in! Tom was working, so I phoned mum to bring my spare key, so they drove 2 hours to come get me, but we couldn’t open the door and so I had to phone Autonational to come break into my car. I got home at 9.30pm, a horrifying 5 hours late. It was utterly embarassing, and what a great first impression! (on the bright side, at least I didnt take my spinning wheel that day…)

Sorry mum!!

Howard wasn’t sure why I was taking photos of stuff on pretty paper, but he was sure that any photo would of course be vastly improved by his presence:
