Quick n Easy Christmas Mitts

 emoticon

Last weekend I went on a residential course at Urchfont Manor. It was billed as an “improvers” course so, rather than teaching us how to spin a thread, we got to play with different fibres and try drum-carder blending.

I made some great, quick mitts from my teensy bit of red yarn (merino, angelina and nylon). The lovely sparkly yarn and gold ribbon made me feel really festive, so I’ve posted the pattern is below for any last-minute gifters:

Materials:
30g Double Knit / DK yarn
1 metre / 3 ft coordinating ribbon
1 set 4.00mm (US 6) dp needles, or circulars

Pattern
Cast on 38 sts and join to knit in the round.
Rows 1-8: *k1, p1 *repeat to end.
Row 9: *k2tog, yo *repeat to end.
Knit 2” stocking stitch.

For the thumb, cast off 7 sts, and knit remaining 31 sts. On the next round, cast on 7 sts, and knit remaining 31 sts. You now have 38 sts on your needles once again.

Knit 3/4″ stocking stitch. Work 4 rows of k1, p1 rib, and cast off.

  1. I love the mitts, they are so pretty and festive. I still haven’t started knitting my yarn up yet, but I have at least washed it and started planning.

  2. Hello Catherine,

they’re very lovely! Hope the spinning is progressing well – I’ve finally persuaded my daughter to get to grips with her knitting at long last and she’s going to try to knit them over the Christmas holidays.

    Hope you are well ….

    Jill
