I have been knitting like a maniac in recent weeks, trying to get my mum’s 60th birthday present finished – a Hanami Stole, knit in a pale blue silk-merino mix.
I finished it just in the nick of time – midnight to be exact – and I was so far out the other side of ‘exhausted’ that I just didn’t have the heart (or mental capability) to take any photos of it. I’m hoping my mum may provide one with her wearing it, at some point in the future
So now I am making a very welcome move on to my next project!
A few weeks ago I sent away for a free colour card from the nice people at Frangipani yarns, with the idea of knitting a Staithes gansey for myself. You can see the colour card in the photo – it drips with the most luscious and un-traditional gansey yarns imaginable. It took me weeks to decide between the colours (which was fine – it was the carrot on the stick I needed as I trudged through never ending rows of basket-weave), mostly between burnt orange Breton, dark turquoise Ocean Deep and mid-purple Heather.

I eventually decided on Ocean Deep, as I once has a cheap GAP sweater this colour that I loved to peices, and which I wore til it eventually fell apart. Or got stained. I don’t recall which. But either way, I placed my order and the yarn arrived the very next day! Thanks Frangipani-Jan!
I’m going to Liverpool next week to a Climate Change Conference, and so I’m hoping to swatch this weekend and then take it with me for my evening’s entertainment as I sit in my dingy Holiday Inn.
