Amethyst Hand Warmers

It was my mum’s birthday on Saturday, and I hand-spun and hand-knit these handwarmers for her.



You can find the pattern for them, below:

Materials:
50g Double Knit / DK / 8-ply yarn
1 set 3.25mm (US 3) dp needles
1 set 4.00mm (US 6) dp needles

Abbreviations
p – purl
k – knit
st – stitch / stitches
yo – yarn-over / yarn-forward
tog – together

    Pattern
    Cuff
    Using 3.25mm (US 3) needles, cast on 34 st. Leave a good length of tail to sew up cuff at end.

    Rows 1 – 7: knit, working flat (back and forth)
    Row 8: Now join in the round, and knit
    Rows 9-10: knit
    Rows 11-12: purl
    Rows 13-15: knit
    Row 16: purl
    Row 17: *p2tog yo, *to end.
    Row 18: purl
    Rows 19-21: knit
    Rows 22-23: purl
    Row 24: knit, changing to 4mm (US 6) needles as you go.

    Body
    Rows 1-14: knit
    Rows 15-16: see below —

      Thumb for left-hand mitt
      Row 15: Knit 9 st. Cast off 7 st and knit remaining 18 st.
      Row 16: Knit 9 st. Cast on 7 st (loosely) and knit remaining 18 st.

      Thumb for right-hand mitt
      Row 15: Knit 18 st. Cast off 7 st and knit remaining 9 st.
      Row 16: Knit 18 st. Cast on 7 st (loosely) and knit remaining 9 st.
    Rows 17-25: knit
    Now stop working in round, and work flat (back-and-forth).
    Row 26: knit onto 3.25mm (US 3) needles
    Row 27: knit
    Row 28: *k2tog yo, *to end
    Row 29: knit
    Row 30: cast off knitwise.
    Finishing
    Use the tails to sew up the cuff where worked flat.

  3. Thank you, this pattern was fun & quick. I did have a little trouble with the cast on & cast off on the thumb . The first stitch would be too loose all the time. I finally got, it but it always took me several tries. I used a crochet bind off & a chain cast on for the thumb hole. Still despite my inexperience with the bind off & on they came out nice.
    I used Magic Garden Button yarn in a black with speckles. It is a little dressy so that my sister can wear them at work.
